7 - Day Liver Detox Plan

by Corine Short

A 7-day liver cleansing protocol can help support your liver's natural detoxification processes and promote overall liver health. This protocol focuses on incorporating liver-friendly foods and herbs while avoiding or reducing foods and substances that may burden the liver. Before starting any cleanse or detox program, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medications.

Here's a general 7-day liver cleansing protocol:

Day 1: Liver-Friendly Smoothie

Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack: Start your day with a liver-friendly smoothie. Blend spinach, kale, beets, a banana, a tablespoon of chia seeds, and a squeeze of lemon juice. This smoothie is rich in antioxidants and fiber to support detoxification.

Dinner: Consume a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Avoid processed foods, alcohol, and sugary beverages.

Day 2: Herbal Tea

Starting today, start drinking a glass of hot tea every single day.  You may also make a large portion (1/2 gallon) and drink throughout the day; drink herbal teas known for their liver-cleansing properties, such as dandelion root tea or milk thistle tea. These herbs may support liver function.

Maintain a diet similar to Day 1.

Day 3: Lemon Water and Liver-Cleansing Salad

Start your day with a glass of warm lemon water. Lemon can stimulate digestion and support liver function.

Lunch: Enjoy a liver-cleansing salad with leafy greens, grated carrots, radishes, and a dressing made from olive oil and lemon juice.

Dinner: Opt for grilled or baked fish (like salmon or cod) with steamed broccoli and quinoa. Fish provides omega-3 fatty acids, which can benefit liver health.

Day 4: Liver-Boosting Smoothie

Breakfast: Have another liver-boosting smoothie with ingredients like kale, blueberries, ginger, and a tablespoon of ground flaxseed. Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Continue with a balanced diet for lunch and dinner only eating proteins high in omega-3.

Day 5: Herbal Detox Broth

Prepare a homemade vegetable broth using liver-friendly ingredients like garlic, onions, carrots, celery, and a dash of turmeric. Sip on this broth throughout the day.

Maintain a diet similar to Days 1 and 3.

Day 6: Liver-Cleansing Juices

Consume fresh fruit and vegetable juices throughout the day. Include beets, carrots, apples, and ginger in your juice recipes. These ingredients are believed to support liver detoxification.

Stay hydrated with water or herbal teas.

Day 7: Fiber-Rich Foods

Focus on high-fiber foods today to support digestive health. Incorporate foods like oats, brown rice, lentils, and beans into your meals.

End the day with a cup of chamomile tea to relax and promote digestion.

Throughout the week:

Avoid processed foods, sugary snacks, and alcoholic beverages.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, herbal teas, and lemon water.
Incorporate liver-supportive herbs like milk thistle, dandelion root, and turmeric into your meals or as supplements, but consult with a healthcare professional for dosing and suitability.
Prioritize sleep and stress management to support overall well-being and liver health.
Remember that a liver cleanse or detox is a short-term program and should not replace a balanced and healthy long-term diet. If you experience any adverse effects or have concerns about your liver health, consult with a healthcare provider for proper evaluation and guidance.
